So I know I said that my next post would be about a cupcake created from a dessert that I had in Paris, but I had some baking to do that I considered more important to get out of the way first.
I decided, instead, to bake some chocolate cookie brownie cupcakes with vanilla cookie icing (wow- that was a mouthful!) to entice some friends to sponsor me in the inaugural Taya Marie Flores Walk/Run in support of brain tumour research at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Now I of course know that I don’t actually need to bribe my friends into sponsoring me for a good cause, but a little chocolate always helps as far as I am concerned 😉
Normally I bake these cookie cupcakes in vanilla flavour- but my inspiration for them today was Taya, and chocolate cake was her favourite so I decided to make a change in honour of her. According to my boyfriend cupcake taster extraordinaire, it was a good idea… after he ate one he told me that I “should have made more” and that he wasn’t sure they would actually make it to Toronto (I of course will assure that they actually DO, despite his desire to keep them all for himself). I haven’t even eaten one myself in order to try to make sure that they make it where they are supposed to go tomorrow (even though three of them are sitting on the desk beside me, and I am pretty sure at least one of them is calling my name…)
A few pictures…for the viewing pleasure of those who will not be around tomorrow to taste one!
If you are interested in sponsoring me in the walk/run please let me know…or visit http://my.e2rm.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=1079923&langPref=en-CA&Referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fsecure.e2rm.com%2Fregistrant%2FsessionExpired.aspx%3FeID%3D13975&lp=en-CA to make a donation to this wonderful cause.
And in case you want more information as to where your donations are going, I have posted the outline of the event below:
Please join us for the 1st Annual 5K ‘Taya Marie Flores Walk/Run for Sick Kids Hospital’.
This event is being held in honour and in memory of our baby girl Taya who passed away from a very rare and aggressive brain tumour. She underwent wonderful care and treatment at SickKids Hospital.
We are most appreciative of your participation and any donations to the event as the funds raised and donated are in support of Brain Tumour Research at SickKids.
The future promise of “SickKids” rests upon the availability of more funds to provide support services for new advances in diagnosis, treatment and care. The proceeds from this event will help us fulfill this promise.
Your participation will mean that SickKids is able to continue its vital work not only for the children of Toronto, but of Ontario; Canada and the world, and to fulfill their vision of: “Healthier children. A better world.”
We thank you all in advance for your generosity and support!
